We usually choose a writing prompt from a pre-prepared list. One of our recent prompts was :
a chance remark.
This resulted in writings ranging from a childhood memory of confused words to an adopted child’s story. We also heard of goings-on at the Hotel Mongolia, followed by an incident on Hadrian’s Wall. There were also a couple of humorous poems and we finished with advice on whether a horse is better than a motor-bike if you want to relive a misspent youth.
.
Following on from our performance at the u3a monthly meeting in October, the Creative Writing Group applied to give a reading at the Wolverhampton Literary Festival. We were given a slot at the WRITERS’ HUB on Sunday 8 February. This is an all day event, organised by Emma Purshouse and her associates, at which local writing groups are given an opportunity to present their writings. A group of our members duly performed a selection of their works at 17:30.
Their efforts were warmly received by the audience and by Emma. Well done to Sabine, Alan, Sue, Tess, Debbie and Pauline for biting the bullet, overcoming your nerves and for flying Wolverhampton u3a’s flag at the Festival.
