Walking
When: Various

The Walking Group is in urgent need of a new coordinator. If you enjoy walking or are already a member of the group please consider taking on the role. We have had an active walking group since our u3a was formed in 1996 and is would be a real tragedy to lose it.

In the meantime, and strictly as a temporary measure, John Sheard has volunteered to keep a communication list. If anyone wants to offer to lead a walk they should contact John <jsheard696@gmail.com> and he will forward the details to the people on the list.

The group meets on varying days so that all members have a chance to participate. Walks vary from easy rambles of less than 4 miles to more vigorous longer walks of about 8 miles - the average being 5 miles sometimes over undulating terrain. Often we arrange a pub lunch, cafe or a picnic at the end of the walk. Additional and more precise information is sent out to the group’s members by email about a week before each walk.

We encourage sharing cars. If you accept a lift with another member, it is customary to make a contribution of two to four pounds, depending on distance and numbers sharing, towards the cost of travel

Walks Programme:

We have been advised by the u3a National Walking Coordinator to inform all walkers of the following:

Please note that under no circumstances will u3a or its representatives be responsible for loss of life, personal injury, medical expenses, loss or damage to personal property. It is the responsibility of members to make their own arrangements to insure against such risks if required.

Although risks are kept to a minimum, as with any physical activity, accidents can occur. Please be advised that in the event of an accident, neither u3a nor walk leaders will be held responsible.
